Mamoru Oshii

Mamoru Oshii (b. 1951) is the Japanese filmmaker behind such acclaimed animé movies as Angel's Egg (1985), Patlabor 2: The Movie (1993) and Ghost in the Shell (1995) – which was a huge source of inspiration for The Matrix (1999). Oshii was inspired by European filmmakers like Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard and Andrei Tarkovsky.
